Lustra

The first mention to this village dates back to a royal decree of 994. Its name literally means “shelters” in Latin. The village is then mentioned in a document dated between 1018 and 1027, then in a sale in 1034 and in a document of 1043. It was property of the Sanseverino family, which then donated it to the Capanos. From the second half of the 11th century it passed to the various feudal lords, up to the Granitos that bought it in 1766 and kept it until 1806. The Municipality of Lustra extended to the slopes of Monte Stella and boasted a strategic position for commercial traffic, as it was located on the ancient road that connected Velia with Paestum. The village of Rocca Cilento is very ancient and very important as it is the center of the Barony of Rocca. Rocca Cilento, in the writings of some eighteenth-century authors, is remembered as an ancient farmhouse surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, citrus plantations and all sorts of fruit trees. The territory of Lustra is characterized by a rich vegetation that offers a magnificent landscape. La Fiumara is a stream that flows into a small valley at the foot of the northern side of Monte della Stella before flowing into the Alento river. This area is characterized by olive tree groves and green valleys.
