Santa Marina

Santa Marina is a small town located among the green hills of Tempone, at just over 400 meters above sea level. The village was built around the 10th century as a refuge for the inhabitants of Policastro who were forced to flee to defend themselves against the attacks of the Saracen pirates and the malaria that plagued the mouth of the river Bussento. The town had a particularly aggregate aspect as the inhabitants created a dense maze of alleys, stairs and curves.
The arches supporting the walls are very frequent along the country lanes. This urban knit thick and intrigued, makes Santa Marina a very suggestive village.
The height of the town is combined with lush scenery: its landscapes are dominated by beautiful colors and nuances that are difficult to describe, as well as its perfumes are indescribable.
Santa Marina is located a short distance from the coastal town of Policastro Bussentino which draws its roots from the remote Greek history, and evolves into a crescendo of incursions and barbarian devastation. It holds a suggestive Roman road and the medieval walls, still intact.
